Project Synopsis.
Anchor Set ‘N Secure is an app for Windows Phone® (WP). Anchor Set ‘N Secure was designed with two main functions. The app serves as a supplementary tool to help guide mariners during the anchoring process. It also monitors the boat’s relative position while at anchor, and issues alerts on the WP should the vessel drift beyond a predefined perimeter.
Leveraging WP’s Location Services (LS), the app uses GPS location data to estimate Rode and Scope measurements. Both indicators are key to ensure the anchor is set properly. With anchor set, LS are then used to define a secure radius or GeoFence. LS are then used to monitor the boat’s relative position within the GeoFence and renders this graphically on the WP. If the anchor drags, and the boat drifts outside the GeoFence, the app also sends visual and auditory alarms.
