Project Synopsis.
Trim Assistant is an app for Windows Phone® (WP). A relatively simple app, Trim Assistant offers boaters a piece of functionality usually found as an integrated feature in complex marine systems or on expensive navigational equipment.
The Trim Assistant app helps mariners to ‘trim the attitude’ of their sail or power boat. While measuring attitude is not complex, this app also incorporates WP accelerometer and speech API’s in unique ways. To ensure reliable operation across all WP devices, an accelerometer is used instead of the inclinometer sensor. This requires aggregating accelerometer/orientation sensor data and performing low pass filtering so the data output can be displayed in user friendly graphical representations. A speech assistant also provides verbal cues when ideal attitude limits are reached.
